  • Condition: Very good original condition for its age. Wood shell and rims show moderate scratching and some nicks, but no major cracks or repairs are seen. Most of the original hand painting remains intact, with moderate loss along the rims. The skin heads show discoloration and wear, but also remain intact. Ropes are worn and fragile, however they also remain intact. One piece of brass hardware is missing from the shell (see photos), and there is a piece of wood and a piece of brass loose inside the drum.

Antique Late 19th century 29" Marching Band Bass Drum Topsham Maine Local Band<br>Used<br>Truly Amazing Antique Marching Band Rope Tension Bass Drum<br>Beautiful wood shell with hand painted "Topsham Local Band" sign (Maine)<br>Hand painted rims, simple holes for rope threading, appears to be original rope<br>Both heads intact, but worn<br>Did not attempt to open the drum to see if there is a manufacturer's label inside, as ropes are fragile.  Based on time period, likely a manufacturer from the New England area.<br>In my research, it appears the Topsham began having large local fairs around the mid-to late 1800s, growing in popularity around 1870s.  These continued to grow.  It is likely that this drum was used Late 1800s, possibly very Early 1900s<br>Measures approx. 29" Diameter x 11" Deep (close as I can get without removing rims)<br>Great addition to your collection!<br>IMPORTANT NOTE:<br>Shipping is available on this item, but due to the size, fragility and amount of handling it will take it is expensive.
